I’m grateful for the endorsements I have received for this year’s primary election. I would like to offer a huge thank-you to the organizations, and to their representatives who I have spoken with as part of this process. These endorsements represent a huge step forward for this campaign.
These organizations do their due diligence in their candidate screening. Their endorsement process involved lengthy questionnaires and video meetings. I am confident that you can be confident, that these endorsements indicate my strong support for the progressive priorities and values that you care about.
Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV)
Protecting the natural environment is a key challenge of our times. We must enforce urban growth boundaries, and protect farmland and natural areas. We must attempt to slow the effects of global climate change by reducing emissions. Additionally, because the effects of global climate change are already upon us, we must mitigate the effects by addressing the impact on our communities: through careful stewardship of precious water resources, and by ensuring that vulnerable citizens have access to life-saving air conditioning.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local #555 (UFCW 555)
The global Covid-19 pandemic taught us all just how essential our food and commercial workers really are to all our lives. Without them, we lose access to the food and services we rely upon! They deserve to work with dignity and respect, in safe conditions; and they deserve to earn a living wage for their work. The right of the people peaceably to assemble is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The right of workers to organize is therefore a First Amendment right. Because organized businesses have vast resources at their disposal, Unions are under frequent attack by corporate interests. Standing up for workers is as important now as it has ever been.
Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon (PP PAC)
Reproductive freedom is an essential freedom. With the United States Supreme Court stacked with partisan hardliners, and so many other states poised to enact harsh legislation, protecting reproductive freedom is critical in our times. Here in Oregon, we must continue to do everything in our power to stand up for women’s health care, effective sex education, and the right to plan for parenthood: including the right to choose to end a pregnancy. The best way to plan for parenthood is through effective sex education and the availability of contraception: and that is what Planned Parenthood represents. I am honored and humbled to receive an endorsement from Planned Parenthood. (Please note, due to an unfortunate email mix-up, this endorsement will not be listed in the Voter’s Pamphlet for the May Primary.) I appreciate the support of PP PAC and I look forward to standing up for women’s health care and reproductive freedom in Oregon.
